Question communicating two machines


in root user ,i used the route command of a machine A to configure network like
route add -host 192.168.1.155 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0
then i added the default gateway as my machine IP
then i added machine B using
route add -net 192.168.1.154 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0
,what i want is to send files between two machines after configuring both the systems
do explain me the steps to communicate two machines

i have a linux server using telnet i have connected to the server
,ihave an ordinary user account on that machine ,what are the services available to me like rlogin ,rsh

How would you like to communicate the machines? FTP? Samba? Are they in one local network? If not, do they have IP numbers you can access from the Internet?
