College ISP told me i couldnt use samba.

hello,

My college ISP informed me that i have to connect to a Workgroup, and set my computer name to a building code. I was like ok, but then they told me i couldnt use samba. So then i said "OK, so i cant use linux", and they replied, "yes u can".

How do i connect to a windowz Workgroup without samba?

Im using slackware 11.0 with the 2.6.17.13 kernel if that helps. :S
