Centos - no Yum, up2date, and Address family not supported

Hi,

Setup a server with Centos 4.4 - it can't connect to up2date (Centos Network) it just hangs, or yum (just hangs on getting repositories), or ssh. I checked the /var/log/secure and had the following error

socket: Address family not supported by protocol.

was also getting
error: Bind to port.... failed: Address is already in use, so followed some advice and added the following to /etc/modprobe.conf to turn off ipv6
alias net-pf-10 off

It can ping the loopback address, the gateway, and www.google.com.

I also setup an almost identical (everything same except for hard disk size) server the day before using the same set of disks and it doesn't have this problem. I also tried reinstalling the server and it has the same problem as before. If it's hardware I wouldn't know how to check it.

It has the same repo files as the working server.

I'm a relative newbie to Linux, and don't really know where to go with this next. Any help or input is much appreciated, thankyou for taking the time to look at this.
