Hello Linux gurus,
I'm running Debian Sarge, updated daily, w/ custom compiled 2.6.9 kernel.
You can take a look at my .config at www dot 3miasto dot net/~leszek/
I've got some weird problem with networking that manifests itself mainly while using SSH.
Symptoms:
a) when I ssh anywhere , I always got the 'socket: Address family not supported by protocol' error (but the connection still makes it):
leszek@utumno:~$ ssh -l leszek 3miasto.net
socket: Address family not supported by protocol
leszek@3miasto.net's password:
Last login: Sun Dec 5 10:04:10 2004 from *************
NetBSD 2.0_BETA (3miasto.net) #3: Sat Oct 23 01:27:13 CEST 2004
b) when I use the '-4' option to SSH to force using IPv4, the problem disappears:
leszek@utumno:~$ ssh -4 -l leszek 3miasto.net
leszek@3miasto.net's password:
Last login: Sun Dec 5 10:04:10 2004 from *************
NetBSD 2.0_BETA (3miasto.net) #3: Sat Oct 23 01:29:33 CEST 2004
So, the problem seems to be that my SSH somehow uses IPv6 over 4 by default?
But how come? If you look at my .config, I'll see that everything related to IPv6 is not set, AFAIK. I also cannot see any option in /proc/sys/network that would be related to IPv6. I've tried reconfiguring my SSH with 'dpkg-reconfigure ssh' but I cannot see any IPv6 related option there.
Could anybody shed some light on what is happening?
thanks in advance,
Leszek
