CentOS 6 PPTP VPN problems

Hello,

I bought a CentOS6 64x VPS server from Ramnode a while ago which I have been mainly using as a PPTP VPN server. I used following script/guide to configure this VPN: http://goo.gl/QjsgcC .

The problem that I am facing is that some websites are unreachable via the VPN connection. I am able to ping them however when I surf to them, I just get a blank page.

Please see following video which shows the problem:
http://www.screencast.com/t/IsDBNcS6RqD

This seems to be completely random, some websites work perfectly, some don't. ( always the same ones though )
I also installed a CLI browser (lynx) on my VPS and from there all websites are reachable.

So basically something must be going wrong between my PC and the VPS but I have no clue what. I am guessing some kind of routing/firewall/dns issue but I am unsure on how to proceed. I also tested from multiple locations and tried different browsers but to no avail.

Any help/advice would be greatly welcome!

Can you ping successfully by IP address and name? It would be useful to see code and output here (rather than screen capture).
For example

Also, when the VPN is active what is reported by
Code:
cat /etc/resolv.conf
Code:
netstat -r

Thanks for already having a look!

Yes pinging works from both Windows and my VPS. I am using www.hln.be as an example because that site is never reachable via my browser.

Windows:
C:\Users\Mathieu.vandelook>ping www.hln.be

Pinging e8838.ksd.akamaiedge.net [23.212.205.150] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 23.212.205.150: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=57
Reply from 23.212.205.150: bytes=32 time=36ms TTL=57
Reply from 23.212.205.150: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=57
Reply from 23.212.205.150: bytes=32 time=46ms TTL=57

Ping statistics for 23.212.205.150:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 46ms, Average = 39ms

I can't help directly, but I can point you at this

https://www.privateinternetaccess.co...ile-vpn-active

You might need to research this further outside of these forums. I only ever use my (PPTP) VPN for accessing company servers, not for internet access.

Hello,

Small update, was not able to find a proper fix for this unfortunately.

In the meantime, I have setup a small PPTP server at home for VPN usage.
I do not have the mentioned problems with my setup at home so I will probably cancel other VPN subscription.

Topic may be closed.

Cheers,
Mathieu
