Can't Connect To 127.0.0.1

I just installed Debian with some servers, including apache and sshd. They seem to be working fine when accessed from other machines on my network, but I can't connect from the local server machine. lynx/ssh/ping 127.0.0.1 or localhost all fail. Just to be sure, I checked apache's access.log and error.log, and nothing from the local machine showed up. The connections clearly aren't being made.

What's going on? I really need to get this server working for the local machine. Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit:
I don't know if it makes any difference, but I run dhclient every time I boot. For some reason, Debian doesn't automatically do the DHCP stuff with my Linksys router when it boots, so that's the only way I know of getting connected. If anybody knows about my original problem and/or this one, I would greatly appreciate help on either!

Probably your loopback interface is not up, try running
Code:
ifconfig lo up 127.0.0.1

Edit:
Hey, that worked, thanks! Just out of curiosity. Why doesn't it work to start with?

So I guess there's still this question, and why I need to run dhclient.

For permanent solution, to have loopback interface up and eth0 scanned by dhcp, there should be lines
Code:
auto lo eth0
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
in /etc/network/interfaces

Now running '/etc/init.d/networking start' should do the necessary magic. (it is automaticly run at boot).

See man interfaces for doing some more tricks. There are also some user-interfaces for doing that file automatically (like etherconf).
