Cannot ping local system when pinging system is set for static IP

I apologize if this has been beaten to death elsewhere. I could not come up with a good way to search for the information.

Short form: Can ping static IP system when pinging system is DHCP, but not when it is also static IP.

Long Form:
Anyway. I have three systems wired to a linksys router (nothing on the wireless at the moment.

"BigBox": Mandrake 10.1 Recent updates (like last week). Static ip at 192.168.1.201. This is my machine. I need to share out several filesystems from this machine, and also need to ssh to "Cutie". Bigbox also needs to access the file systems on Cutie.

"Cutie": Mandriva 2005. Recent updates (yesterday). Static IP at 192.168.1.202, or DHCP. This is my wife's machine. I need to share a couple file systems from there. Cutie needs to access a filesystem on Bigbox. And Cutie needs to allow Bigbox to ssh in.

"ShuffmanNTPC": Windows 2000. Not many updates. DHCP. This is my office machine. I am not permitted to update this system. It needs to access a filesystem on BigBox. It also uses Cisco VPN to access my corporate network.

Bigbox works fine. It can access everything that it needs to.

ShuffmanNTPC is also fine. It can access the filesystem it needs to on Bigbox and and it can VPN into my corporate network. I only mention it for completeness.

Cutie is my problem child. When it is set for DHCP, it can ping bigbox. when it is set for static, it cannot. Also when it is set for static it cannot mount filesystems on BigBox.

I need Cutie to be Static so that I can easily share out its drives (it has my redundant backup drives.)

My question, why can I not ping when Cutie is set for a static IP?

Thanks,
Skip

Could it be that the static ip your giving 'cutie' is possibly colliding with a DHCP assigned address on the network i.e two comps with the same ip? (Just a guess at this stage)

Other than that are you sure all you're IP addr, subnets and routes are correct.

I don't think so.

1)I have assigned it 192.168.1.202 The DHCP server is supposed to assign 192.168.1.100-149

2)The network is only five devices:
-----Bigbox: 192.168.1.201 (static)
-----Cutie: 192.168.1.202 (static)
-----ShuffmanNTPC: 192.168.1.103 (DHCP)

-----Linksys: 192.168.1.1 (LAN side) 66.xxx.xxx.xxx (DSL side)
-----DSL Modem: 192.168.1.1

I don't see any collisions there.

3) Cutie connects out through the Linksys to the internet just fine.

Are there any firewall rules link to a specific IP address that might be blocking pings?

Nothing that I intentionally set up. And I don't see anything in the router's setup.
