Can FTP server be "used" by spammers

This is not specifically a Linux question, but I'm curious. I sometimes leave an FTP server running on the net for a few days to allow a few friends to get some files.

Is it possible that spammers could use my computer to "bounce" emails even tho I don't have an email server running?

I can't see how, unless there are sufficient security holes in your system that would allow a hacker to get in and start up an e-mail server.
