"can`t find module" but it is there

Good`aye
On a redhat9 I cannot get the network card (Realtek 2089AS) installed. The appropriate modules, (in fact the two possible modules from as given from different sources) are there in /lib/modules/...../ne.o(0r ne2k-pci-o).
I tried modprobe and put in the full path and still no luck.
Any ideas greatly appreciated
Michael

that'll be an 8029 not 2089 i presume.....

what have you actually done? what errors are there? you should just need "modprobe ne2k-pci" and nothing else.

Good`aye
I tried to install the card from the desktop tool and got this output

Command failed: /sbin/modprobe ne

Output:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/ne.o: init_module: No such device or address
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/ne.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/ne.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/net/ne.o: insmod ne failed
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
