What
madwifi version did you try to install? What errors occured? It's a fact that the
ath5 driver works from
2.6.28 onwards without issue - what kind of kernel are you using? If the server is running
Ubuntu 8.04, you're probably using an older kernel (nothing wrong with that). Compiling the latest
0.10.x snapshot of
madwifi will help in this case (I'm running this version successfully on different machines). Get it
here (it's the one at the bottom of the list, ususally).
Do (from within the directory you downloaded and unpacked the
madwifi package to)
Code:
$ sudo modprobe -r ath_pci
$ sudo make clean
$ sudo make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo modprobe -i ath_pci
This works on every kernel for
8.04 I've tried it on. If you're using
9.04, you shouldn't have any problem at all (but you know that already).
