can't connect to internet

Hello,

I installed Linux Susue 10.1 with network cable attached and all worked fine until I unhooked my network cable and used my windows PC in the mean time.

I attached the network cable back to Susu machine after a few days and ever since can not acces the internet from Suse.

I have tried updating resolv.conf as "nameserver 192.168.1.1" which is the IP of my Linksys router. Previously, resolv.conf had only one line "Domain site".

Any help, would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

ok, so can you ping a remote site? try a nameserver like 193.0.14.129 also try a traceroute to it too. if that works, what about pinging by name, .e.g. k.root-servers.net if that works too then your problems must exist within a web environment, e.g. proxies etc...

I think resolv.conf file contains information regarding your DNS not your gateway being your linksys router. Inside resolv.conf you need to put your primary and secondary DNS information which you can obtain from your windows box when you do "ipconfig /all" if that is you have internet connectivity on your windows machine. Otherwise you need to speak with your ISP. So inside your resolv.conf file you put this:

nameserver primary_dns_ip
nameserver secondary_dns_ip
