where do i place that line of code??? in the /etc/crontab file?


my crontab looks like:

SHELL=/bin/bash
PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
MAILTO=root
HOME=/

# run-parts
01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly
02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily
22 4 * * 0 root run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
42 4 1 * * root run-parts /etc/cron.monthly
~
~
~
----

do i just add the line of code below that?

I would create a fine in your root directory (or where you want):
/root/cron.standard

Then run:
crontab /root/cron.standard

To install the crontab.

You can check that it has added the new jobs by running:
crontab -l

okay great, it says cron.standard was installed.


one more question, if i restart will i have to crontab cron.standard again? or is it there for good until i uninstall it?

It will be there until you uninstall/overwrite it.

Just keep adding commands to the same file and update it like you have just done to make them take effect.

You can't do it directly with tar but you could do it with a zip file or use gpg afterwards.
