ARP not behaving...

hey, am new here and to the world of Linux!

have an instance of RedHat 4.1.2-42 (it's a virtual appliane) that is dual honed.

I have configured the network cards so the device is bridging two networks (LAN and SAN). with Only one network having a Default Gateway (LAN). The install doesn't have a firewall.

When I ping hosts/gateways which I know are UP I get a 100% packet loss. I have looked at routing and this "looks" ok. Although it does take a little while to complete the presentation of it's table.

When I issue the ARP command it too takes a little while to display any meaningful data, when it does I get the normal ARP table but instead where I'd expect to see a MAC address under HWaddress all that is registered is (incomplete)

can someone give a new convert a few pointers ?

thanks

T.

....thanks for your interest but I resolved the issue myself.

It being a virtual machine I removed a single nic to leave just one.
I then carried out my troublehooting tasks, pings, etc. all were sucessfull so i readded the second nic and lo-behold both were pinging, routing and ARPing as expected.

not sure of the mechanics of what/why/where etc but it works now so alls good.
