Question Anyone pay for Red Hat Network

I have just recently gotten my Internet connection up on my newly installed RH9 box. I am new to using linux and especially using updates.

So, is it worth signing up and paying for the use of the "Red Hat Network"?

https://rhn.redhat.com/

If so, what do subscription service do you recommend for just end user, who uses Linux at home to play and learn with?

Thanks,

PIKIE-ME

I did at one point subscribed to the RHN just because I'm that lazy. The only real benefits the sub provides is access to the updated RPM packages and an early crack at the ISO's for RH's newer releases. (Although I guess now it's Fedora)

If you don't really want to use RHN you don't need to. But I would definately keep tabs on a security distribution list so you can review which packages have been updated for sec reasons.

There was an article in Linux Format recently about this, it gave alternatives, which I didn't try all, but one I found useful was Synaptic.

First install apt (unless you already have it installed)

rpm -ivh http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrp...6-fr2.i386.rpm

then run

apt-get update
apt-get install synaptic

after it's been installed launch with

synaptic

Hope this helps
