A really tough one: configuring hotwayd/hotsmtpd for mutt mailer
Hi everyone,
Are there any mutt experts out there? I don't know if anyone will be able to read through the next few paragraphs but the basic of my question is: Is it possible to use *.muttrc* file to set up address and port of the outgoing smtp server, *rather* then using configuration file of the smtp server application?
I am trying to configure hotsmtpd to work with mutt mailer. I installed hotwayd/hotsmtpd and I was able to download mail from hotmail account using hotwayd without any problems.
Using hotsmtpd to *send* email through hotmail is a different story. HOtsmtpd is, as far as I can tell, is up and running, listening on the port 2502 ( I added entries to inetd.conf and /etc/services, checked by netstat). However, I am not sure how to proceed with configuring mutt to work with hotsmtpd. I added in my .muttrc file:
sendmail=/usr/local/sbin/hotsmtpd
but that's about it. What else am I supposed to do? Hotsmtpd man pages mention "setting your mail client so that the outgoing smtp server is 127.0.0.1 at the appropriate port" but muttrc doesn't have a place for those entries. MTAs like sendmail have their own config. files for that.
Thanks for your help.
