I have a box running rh7.3. I have installed a 2nd nic. The 1st nic is ip 10.0.0.12, mask 255.255.255.0, gw 10.0.0.3 eth0. The 2nd nic is ip 10.1.1.12, mask 255.255.255.0, gw 10.1.1.1 eth1. I cannot ssh into the 2nd nic with a workstation in the same 10.1.1.# range. I can ssh into it from an ssh session through the 1st nic 10.0.0.12. The graphical deactivate and activate show no errors. If I ifdown and then ifup eth1, it complains that a file exists and that the subnet mask does not match the routing table. I have looked at the routing table via route and have not noticed anything weird. I also tried swapping the 2nd nic to a different one, same exact results. What gives?
I know it is way old, what can I say? Anyway, the ListenAddress in /etc/ssh/sshd_config is the default 0.0.0.0 I need to ssh to both nic's. The second nic worked fine until last week. Power outage. I did try to swap hardware with the same results.
If YOU suspect the power outage to be culprit to the system not correctly responding...three choices. A) Check YOUR configuration files for accuracy. B) Check YOUR BIOS for the setup to be as close to the requirements for YOUR hardware than the "optimized" setting. < set each line one at a time...for closer matches to hardware>. C) Time: if YOU have the time , re-installing the Distro is the best way to get all those files correct.
