2 questions about DSL gateway/firewall


just got my Linux RedHat 7.2 box setup as a DSL gateway/firewall does fine and all that but if idle for a long time my ISP shuts me down .... all I do is reboot the linux box and all is well...... how can i keep the connection live ?
and is there an easier way to restart the ppp0 deamon without rebooting my ISP requires login and is DHCP connection

I know there are apps out there that will keep an AOL connection up, so you may want to try and find one that will work for your dsl line.
