How to disable app on Android 10

I am running Android 10 on a CAT S52, and testing different email apps. I want to test each apps one by one so I disable the others, but I couldn't find a way to disable the app, so that I disable sync. of the app but that didn't work. I don't want to uninstall the app until I fully tested and found what I want, and I don't want to simply disable the notification but still wasting my data checking mail multiple times, what can I do ?

Android Tools, adb can be used for this.

Thanks, this is quite a lot of work to do to simply disable an app, which that build in feature unfortunately removed by Google that sucks !

there is a freeze feature, but I think you need to use a rooted phone and a special app to do that. Anyway, android can freeze (deep sleep?) unused apps by itself, so it looks at least doable.
