How to run exe files on Linux Mint????
Hello Everyone,
I tried to use Wine to emulate windows for .exe on ubuntu..
That never worked for me. I have few application available only for windows OS.
I am now using Linux Mint 8 on my PC. Please suggest me options to run .exe files with Helena.
If wine is the only option, then how do i execute the file using Wine?
Thanks in advance.

Have you tries right clicking on the .exe file and then clicking on Open with WINE or whatever comes up in the actions window? That is what got things working for me. Now I only have to click them.

You might also want to look at Crossover---the commercial (paid) version of WINE.
Also, check the compatibility lists at their site: http://www.codeweavers.com/
and here: http://appdb.winehq.org/

What are the programs? Not all Windows programs will work with WINE (or cxOff or a WINE type API)

CrossOver V9.0 is working great guns for me, right now,
- much better than V8, I've a few M$ s/w programs running that I never could before.
EDIT:
So good, in fact, that I've now bought a copy of V9.

You cannot run Windows executables on Linux unless you have WINE. Even then, it is very hard to do.

You could also try ReactOS, which you may have better luck with than Wine. It does use some of the Wine API, but also adds other libraries that make it more suitable for Windows applications.

Failing all else, if your computer has the resources to spare for it, install VirtualBox and install a real Windows OS in a virtual machine.
Note that like Wine, you won't get the same performance as if it was running Windows on the computer directly.
