How to revert to an older version of a program

Let's say that I've just done an update of some program via the Update Manager. I then find that it breaks some other program on my system. How can I revert to the older version of the program I just installed? As far as I can tell, the only info I have now is the program's new version number. I'm sure there must be a way

From the package manager under installed you can use force version to downgrade an application to the previous version.

In distros which use APT, you can then use APT-pinning after you have downgraded to ensure that the new version does not come back.

Which distro is that on? Which package is it? What did you include in your bug report to the package maintainer?

Turbocapitalist, This was a hypothetical, toward the day when it might happen. FYI: Mint 20.1 Ulyssa.

michaelk, thanks for the clear answer.
