having a he!! of a time installing

ok so let me first list my hardware:

AMD 5600+ dual core 64 bit socket 939
ATI x1900xtx GPU
4gb DDR400 RAM
40 GB IDE hdd

I have done a 8 hour memtest and it passed with flying colors. i have tried to install, linux mint 17, lubuntu 14.04, ubuntu 14.04 and 12.10 all with the same dang issue. The screen goes black before i can even try a live trial or install.

So in ubuntu, i tried some boot options such as

nomodeset xforcevesa -- vga=785

it starts to run through tthe basic start up and then it stops with the following:

Size:	278.1 KB
ID:	19763

SO i try memtest again and it still passes with no errors.

Today i tried linux mint and i still get the black screen... i thought the whole purpose of linux was to be supior over other OS's? its like they have had a bad batch this year haha. oh well.

So first question, how do i get to a boot option in linux mint so i can at least try the nomodeset thing and see if i can at least get it to start up somewhat?

any other ideas?? thanks

The 5600+ is socket AM2, not 939.

Anyways, the screenshot you posted indicates that there are problems with the L3 cache on the CPU, which is rather weird, since the 5600+ doesn't even have a L3 cache. This might be a problem with the Ubuntu kernel, so as a first step I would recommend to try something that is not based on Ubuntu. Try to boot a Fedora, Arch or Slackware CD/DVD/USB. If the problem persists this might be a hardware error.

my bad. i typed the number wrong. its last gen of the socket 939 cpu's. funny thing is though, mine doesnt have an L3 cache, just L2. i still cant get it to work. Also, i am having issues running the ultimate boot cd. since it loads the same linux kernle as ubuntu i get the following error

2.660612 The force paramater is not set to 1. The iris poweroff handler will not be installed.

i cant even run a dang spu test... grr this is making me so mad. haha. memtest runs great though no errors.
