Question Wireless and cursor remain asleep after Dell x64 Laptop reawakens Linux Mint

Hi,
This is my first post! I recently installed Linux Mint 18 Sarah x64 (mate) on a generic Dell 15" 64bit laptop This replaced 17.3 Rebecca (mate) x64 which worked flawlessly.

When I close the lid and the laptop goes to sleep everything happens normally. However when I open the lid and it awakens, 75% of the time the wireless does not reawaken and 25% of the time the cursor is frozen also and I must do a hard shut down. If the cursor does work I usually can right click on the connection icon in my taskbar > enable internet and that does it--except when it doesn't. Then I have to do a hard shut down and then both wireless and cursor start up perfectly when I next start back up. When I start or restart they always reload fine, it only happens after a nap.

I originally thought it might be a power setting in the Control Center but I wasn't able to find anything.

Thank you in advance! Hello to all and I look forward to learning and interacting here!

Best,
Blue

You may check dmesg
you may check /var/log/messages

you may check kernel related sections for dell. dell has it'S own stuff in the linux kernel.

you may do a firmware, aka bios upgrade. also verify if you are using the latest firmware for your wlan and such. also check the net for similar issues from other linux users for your network cards, and other components, same laptop.

quote: cursor is frozen
I assume you are talking about the touchpad feature? or are you talking about an external usb mouse?

also my laptop has a not functional touchbad enable / disable = toggle touchpad key. Did you check if your touchpad is just disabled via a hardware key?

Regarding sleep state there are different cpu sleepstates. I usually used hibernating with tuxonice years ago. Depening on how you put your hardware too sleep, there are differnt ways to deal with issues.

With my encrypted box I usually turn off the box these days, no more hibernating.
