WindowsXP/Red Hat 8.0 on IBM 600E

I just upgraded my IBM 600E laptop with a 40 gig hard drive and am trying to install both XP and Red Hat 8.0 on it. I install XP first and allocated half of the drive to it. I then attempt to install Red Hat. Whether I let the program automatically partition the other 19 gig or I manually try to partition it, I am constantly running into an error message indicating that I probably am out of disk space and cannot write the kernal (about 1.8 gig) to disk. Is there a work around for this?

Sounds like BIOS is incorrectly passing on partition information to the kernel. That probably came with a 10GB originally right? They might have the really old BIOS on-board that can only see the first 16Gb of drive space. I would check to see if there is a BIOS update.

Cheers,

The "funny thing about that is that it only does it in Red Hat 8.0. Red Hat 7.3 seems to have no problem writing the image but then lacks all sorts of things to get it working properly (sound noprobe and serial port)
