Thumbs up unable to connect wifi to my laptop in ubuntu


Hi,
I had a hp3510 notebook pc(laptop). I had BSNL broadband router connection. I can access wifi in windows. whereas i am unable to connect to wifi in ubuntu linux. So, please can you help me in that issues.
Even though router and wifi of laptop is on, ubuntu is not showing the network connectivity. so , please kindly help me in this issue.

Can you connect to the Internet some other way, such as with a wired Ethernet connection? If you can, I'd suggest downloading software updates for Ubuntu using the update manager (system->administration->update manager).
