does
Code:
sudo ifconfig -a
show any assigned IP addresses ?
you might need to run
Code:
sudo pump
or
Code:
sudo dhclient
to get the data from the DHCP service

sudo pump = no command found

but sudo dhclient seemed to show an ip address, now it's connected to a network, not sure if its mine? there is also a library around here that has unsecure wifi, how can I make sure I'm using my wifi?

Code:
sudo iwconfig
will show you the ESSID of the wifi point you are connected to.
Code:
sudo iwlist scan
will show all the access points detectable.
