Toshiba Modem Troubles

Ok, heres the deal:

I am using a Toshiba and need my modem to work, so through the grace of google, I have found many sites that told me to get slmdm....tar.gz So I did. They say to rpm -ta (rpmbuild -ta in my case) to make an rpm off the tarball. So I did. Now heres the problem I keep getting -- Its all good 'tillit looks for /usr/src/linux/inclue/linux/modversions.h at which point it says it doesnt exist. (really, it doesn't exist) I'm using the 2.6.11.2 kernel which I upgraded from suse's 2.6.8. These drivers are written for the glorious 2.4 kernel, so I assume thats my problem. After that problem, the rpm built dies out. I think once I can get this to build, I am home free. Any ideas? -Bill

Another question - why can't someone just make the rpm and put it online? I've gotten a bunch that don't work for other distros, so why doesn't someone just make the rpm for this program?

For every possible kernel & distro combination... unlikely to happen in the near future

Anyway, you have the correct kernel sources installed (and headers, if you didn't compile the new kernel) ? The other option is to simply choose a kernel for which an rpm driver has already been compiled. Note also that under Suse some of the drivers are called smartlink-softmodem, AFAIK, rather than slmodem.

Cheers,

mj
