I don't know much about Suse, but it's possible that you're not loading the kernel module for your network card. Are you having problems with anything else (like the sound)? I say this because if you just upgraded your distro, you are almost certainly working with a new kernel.
Look up what module your card needs, and try

lsmod | grep whatver_module_you_need
If you don't get any output, you need to make sure your kernel modules package matches your kernel (sorry again, don't know much about Suse or its package management system, other than that it has one).
