Strange sound volumn???

I installed Red Hat on my IBM R32 laptop, when I was listening to music, it sounds normal at first, then (after a while) the volumn went down, i maximized the volumn (both in RealPlayer and the system settings) but still can only hear a little bit, but sometimes it works normally (usually after a black screen when I'm not using it), why? How to solve it?
Thanks in advance.

???

What is sound deamon and OSS?
sorry I'm new to linux

...

BTW, I found some video/audio players that are written in Java and they are very good as they just need
a JVM to run, unlike some other Linux video/audio players that need like SDL/glibc (version > x.x) etc.

But I haven't found ONE single Java media player that support most format, so I'm wondering why there isn't
one.

Yours Sincerely
Olnex
