sound/audio problems

Please can somebody help me with this problem, I am at my wits end.

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-TR1MP, and the sound under slax doesn't work.

when I run lspci it shows it as an Intel 8028...something
running lsmod shows that snd_intel8x0 is loaded, running alsaconf picks up the same card as lspci and loads the same module as already loaded.

I have blacklisted snd_intel8x0m, but no difference so I have also tried to modprobe that module as well.

kmix shows everything working fine, pcm1 and pcm2 and gain all up and unmuted. alsamixer shows the same. headphone and jack sense are both muted

I have tried to disable arts, but I don't even know if this is loaded or if it disabled. I have removed hte win32 codecs from my modules directory and added the alsa module from this site.

I have tried hte suggestions in the following thread: slax.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14513

Windows sounds work fine, and it is repoted as a SoundMAX card under device manager.
On boot up it displays an animated logo as the machine posts that plays a little tune, this works fine and there is nothing under the BIOS, to configure sound cards!

I have tried a knoppix CD and this doesn't work, although I wasn't logged on as root when trying knoppix.

I ma currently running slax killbill 5.1.8.1 but have also tried slax killbill 5.1.8

One thing I have noticed is that under kde\sound system\ hardware tab, it is set to autodetect, the other options are OSS, no input or output and something else, but the is no ALSA!

Any suggestions would be most welcome, as I am now going bald as a result of pulling so much hair out.

Thanks

run $ alsamixer

and see if there is something called "headphone jack sense" parameter and mute it. You may have to search for a different combination till everything is OK.
