slmdm for linmodem crash 2.4.22 kernel

I used the package slmdm-2.7.9 with redhat 9.0 (with the kernel 2.4.20). It was working fine until I decided to update the kernel to the version 2.4.22. Now when I try to use the modem (linmodem scorpio) even when I probe it, the whole system stop and I have to turn off the power.
Did I miss something in the kernel configuration or is there some conflict between the kernel 2.4.22 and slmdm?

There are some bugs in kernel 2.4.22. Look at the changelog for 2.4.23-pre* to see the fixes. I would stick to kernel 2.4.21 with the patch 2.4.22-rc2. I don't know how you made your kernel, but if you want to match your old kernel settings, copy your config-2.4.20-8 config file from /boot to /usr/src/linux-2.4 and load that in 'make xconfig'. Then save and exit and build from there.
