Set Numlock Off By Default On A Suse 9.1 Laptop?

I'm using SuSE 9.1 on a laptop with one of those keyboards that has half of the normal keys turn into the numpad when numlock is on. This is quite annoying as if I forget about it I can end up typing junk into the password box a good few times before I remember.

I've searched for this problem and I can find lots of suggestions for how to get numlock to turn on by default but none to get it to turn off.

Now, I could modify one of these suggestions and add a script to init.local that will turn num lock off but it seems to me that SuSE must be doing something special to get it to turn on in the first place and removing it is more sensible than fighting with it. Also I'm not convinced that this will follow through into X where I really need it.

I have told KDE to turn numlock off for me but that doesn't apply until after I've logged in, nor in other window managers or other user accounts.

I hope someone out there has found this...

Thanks,

Paul

Found the solution on the SuSE forums:

Open Yast click System > /etc/sysconfig Editor. click the + Hardware and then the + Keyboard > KBD_NUMLOCK now set the value to "no" then click finish.

This should fix the problem.
