Power Failure On AC power ONLY Gateway 5300

Hardware:
Gateway 5300
650mz PIII
128 ram

Distros tried: Fedora FC3, xandros 3, and Ubuntu 5.04 (Hoary Hedgehog)

I'm at my wits end. I was running Windows XP professional but it bloated my laptop way too much so I switched to linux. With all three distros I've tried I can run on battery power, but not on AC. It seems they all stop at different points of booting up.... I've tried disabling APCI and APM. It's as if I have a short...many times it will boot up then when i use the keyboard or the touchpad,it dies...but only on AC power. Battery power runs linux like a champ. I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue.

Oh..and I've tried to boot under battery power and then switch to AC...same result....it DIES. Any suggestions?

I REALLY don't want to go back to Windoze....

Oh..and it DIDNT do this under windows...which is why I think its a hardware configuration issue instead of a power supply issue...
