I'm using fedora core 2 with a recompiled 2.6.6 kernel on an HP ZX5000. Sound card is ati ixp150. Sound is fine from the built-in laptop speakers, but there is no sound when I connect my external speakers on the headphone jack. Works fine in windows, so its not a hardware problem. I think it may be a mixer setting, but I haven't been able to make it work after fiddling for long.
HOWever, the headphone setting in alsamixer is "Off"; if that is the problem, how can I switch it on.
I just installed fc2 straight off the current iso's onto my HP ZX5000. I chose the "everything" installation so I hope what I need is already on there. The up2date tool doesn't seem to work. Could you help me out with getting sound to work? I'm familiar with basic commands to run apps on linux, but I've not done any setting up of hardware before. Thanks a ton in advance!
I had a similar problem on my Dell Inspiron 510m - the external speaker worked fine but the headphone port was completely silent. I tried aumix (as per anandj's suggestion) and increased the volume on PCM2. The headphones worked fine after that. Just thought I'd share! ;-)
