Cool Newbie installing on acer aspire 4720z, which linux, puppy, DSL, slitaz or...?..

also one question is to embed or not to embed?

Basically I have been thinking about doing this in the back of my mind for years. got stuck buying system with vista NONE Of my printers work except the lame one. I looked up and the all in one has linux drivers, and I think i saw drivers for the lexmark i3. have not looked up the cannon yet but lets face it it has been long over due to kick microsoft out of my house so there you go. I am NOT doing that next thing they are threathening us with after vista.

system is: vista home premium, I have not seen a lot about embedding in vista, with all the headaches attached to vista, Im not so sure if i want to take this on. has any one done this?

x86 based PC intel pentium dual CPU T2370 @1.73 Gh, 1733 Mh, 2 cores, 2 logical processors
bios version acer v1.3808,218/2008
SMBIOS 2.4
boot device is variable, I already checked I can boot to usb hd, cards etc. memory is 3 gigs ram but it says max is 2 somewhere in all this info.
"CD-rom" ( it hS A DVDRW BUT IT SAYS CD) IS hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-t40n ata device.
sound is realtek high definition audio.
display is mobile Intel 965 expreess chipset family
microsoft ehome remote control keyboard keys
mouse is usb w/ synaptics PS/2 port touch pad.

agere systgems HDA modem.
WAN mini port, broadcom netlink gigabit ethernet.
no serial or parralel.
the HD in the system is NTFS but since it boots to usb Im planning to install it to the external 20 gigs or use the usb flash drive. If I want to boot to linux, i plug in usb hd or thumb drive before I boot. if i want to boot to vista just unplug usb.

on the question of embeding, have they come up with a way to "do" linux in a FTSF system wihtout getting the third party software to revert it to fat? dont really want to do that since it is a new system and still under waranty. if i change it the software warranty is toast. am also planning on eventually dusting off my XP disk and reinstall that one a separate external HD to do the plug in or not thing to chose if I want XP.
the gig hd is partititoned into two partitions. the second one is for back up.
has iSCSI initiator, ( what ever that is)
HD are standard ultra ata controler
have 2 gig usb thumb drive and a 512 SD card.

things i normally do on system are basic everyday stuff.
internet, email, watch dvd's . play music cds or through media player, word processing, games
need a windows emulator to play games. my son uses sytem for guitar software, may be converting some VHS to DVD but thats about the most memory /resource drainer thing we would be doing as a general rule.
a MAJOR consideration is distro size since i have dial up. it took 3 hours to download DSL.
also any infomrmation on games that are simular to age of Empires, empire earth, sims, sims city, stronghold 2 or tetris type would be really appreciated.
Thanks
