Mouse/touchpad utility in 11.04

I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a new Asus U56E, Intel i5. The Mouse utility has no feature to adjust the settings on the touchpad. I would like to be able to disable the touchpad when typing and to use the finger scroll feature found in later versions of Ubuntu. I tried installing 11.10 and 12.04, but neither of these later versions could connect my wireless internet, although they showed the router. Nothing in the Ubuntu Software center would work either.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks, Mike.
