most recent version of Ubuntu that can be installed on a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155?

Hello,
What is the most recent version of Ubuntu that I can install on a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155?

The reason why I am asking this is because someone gave me this laptop and I tried installing Ubuntu 12.10 but the install DVD doesnt run. I was able to install Ubuntu 6.10 and it works fine nevertheless I want a more current version and saw online that this machine was only supported up to a certain version (which I dont know)

If your system is older, you might have better luck with Xubuntu or Lubuntu than Ubuntu.

12.04 is a good release to try first, as it is "long term support" (through April 2017).

If I'm searching correctly that laptop is almost 10 years old. I wouldn't expect it to run a recent Ubuntu satisfactorily if at all. You might be better trying Lubuntu or even looking at something like antiX.

I have looked at the specs of the Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155: 512.0 MB of RAM, 40 Gb of hard drive, 2GHz Celeron
processor. Many recent distributions require at least 512Mb to install, so I am not sure you will succeed with
Ubuntu. You may succeed with Linux Slackware, since it only requires 64Mb of RAM. In any case, you should
avoid heavy desktop environment such as KDE or GNOME and use instead fvwm, icewm, wmaker or Xfce.
