I used to have a similar problem. When I started X, my mouse always got stucked on the corner and it didnt matter if I had chosen autou, ps/2, etc.
The solution I got was to select "auto", and right after, when it asks you for the location, if just you press ENTER it sets /dev/mouse by default. And there is the problem. In my case, I had to white "/dev/mouse".
Yes, that's strange because its the same location that it sets you when you just press ENTER, but if you write the location letter by letter, it may work.
