Smile Make the 'Windows Button' a Linux Button

hii this is raju,
I want to enable "windows button" as SUSE button.

I would find it great if you can enable the following shortcuts: (lnx means win-Button ) lnx + D --> Show Desktop; lnx + L --> Look Screen; lnx + E (or H) --> open file browser (maybe the home dir)

Maybe you have some more shortcut ideas. The button is on the most keyboards - lets use it!

can any one help me !!!

Doesn't seem to work on Mandriva 2009 Gnome.

Hi,

you can use
Code:
xev
to capture the key code. Left windows button should be key code 115.

You can do the following:

Code:
xmodmap "keycode 115 = F20"
This maps left windows button to function key 20.

To have the Windows key-mappings enabled automatically every time you start X either put the xmodmap commands in your ~/.xinitrc file or, preferably, create a file ~/.xmodmaprc and include the xmodmap options, one per line, then add the following line to your ~/.xinitrc:

Code:
xmodmap $HOME/.xmodmaprc
After that you can map the F20 inside your window manager to the function you like to use.

What desktop environment are u using? GNOME or KDE?

If using KDE, go to kcontrol--> regional&accessibility --> Keyboard shortcuts.

Find the entry for Show Desktop, and assign it the shortcut (Win + D)

and so on...
