Linux freezes on laptop (before bootup)

Hi

My Laptop

Laptop specs taken from device manager in Windows XP

I initially started to install gentoo on this laptop and got frustrated with it freezing when modprobing and loading starting the pcmcia modules. I figure gentoo wasn't worth the hassle so got a copy of Fedora Core 4 from one of my files and ran that through the system

It installed perfectly, no problems and detected most of my hardware fine. However, when I boot up now. I get to the grub loader and then select FC4 and it starts to intialise until it gets to 'starting PCMCIA services', at which point it hangs and will proceed no further. Mouse input is also frozen at this stage.

I'm a little 'green' with regards to troubleshooting with Linux so a detailed run down of necessary steps would be extremely appreciated.

Thankyou

See if there's an option for booting without pcmcia. Then you should be able to look in /var/log at syslog and other things to see if some of the hardware didn't work out quite right.

Thanks

I entered 'I' mode and just didn't start pcmcia manually then disabled it in the services from the server options. It now boots up and now i just need my other drivers woohoo!!
