Laptop with dual monitor - mouse shape problems

Hi all,

I've a laptop ACER Aspire 2000 and a Fedora Core 4 running on it. Everything worked good until I decided to have a dual monitor, so I put my old CRT monitor (phillips 107S) near by my laptop and i started configuring it.
After many tries with xorg.conf, I installed ATI software from official page (i think) and I could get both monitor running. BUT, the shape of my mouse pointer changes when I move from one screen to the other, i mean, the mouse pointer in my laptop screen is the normal (arrow) but when i move to the CRT monitor, the mouse pointer shape changes to a quite big white square...
I already check xorg.conf and everything looks fine. I havent found anything similar in google, so I'm lost! I don't know where to find! Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey, this is a bit of a stab in the dark, but maybe it is something to do with hardware/software rendering of the cursor. Look for a line like this

Code:
Option "SWcursor" "true"
in your xorg.conf. If it is there then try it with the other value(true/false), and if it isn't there, try it with both values.

Good luck

I've tried both values and in different places, I mean in <<Section "ServerLayout">> and in <<Section "InputDevice">> and same results as before. I'm gonna post my xorg.conf, I hope this gives light to the problem:

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "Multihead layout"
        Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]" 0 0
        Screen 1 "aticonfig-Screen[1]" LeftOf "aticonfig-Screen[0]"
        InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
        InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
        InputDevice "Synaptics" "AlwaysCore"
        Option "Xinerama" "on"
        Option "Clone" "off"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Mouse0"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Problem sorved, new problem arises

By adding the following SWcursor setting to the xorg.conf file, the cursor rendering problem is solved.

[HTML]
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
HorizSync 28.0 - 50.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 75.0
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[0]"
Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
Option "DPMS" "true"
Option "SWcursor" "true"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "aticonfig-Monitor[1]"
Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
Option "DPMS" "true"
EndSection
[/HTML]

A new problem arises, the mouse leaves a trail of white squares when using the scroll wheel inside a "scrollable window". This effect takes place on both screens. When I move the cursor to the other screen, all the white squares are gone.

really STUCK!!

Hello everyone,
I still have problems with fglrx drivers.
I followed step-by-step the guide suggested by Dogmatica; i did the tests the guide suggested and now I know that I didn't succeed in installing the proprietary driver.
In the log file I find:

(WW) fglrx(1): ***********************************
(WW) fglrx(1): * DRI initialization disabled! *
(WW) fglrx(1): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(1): * no 3D acceleration available *
(WW) fglrx(1): ***********************************

and a few lines later:

(EE) AIGLX: Screen 1 is not DRI capable

I did all the troubleshooting in the guide but nothing changes.
I post also this:

glxinfo | grep vendor
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
server glx vendor string: SGI
client glx vendor string: ATI
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org

glxinfo | grep "direct rendering"
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
direct rendering: No

My computer is a Asus w3450n, with a Mobility Radeon 9600 M10.
I don't know what to do now!!!

:S :S
heeeeeelp!!
