I have replaced the original HDD with a Seagate hybrid. I then installed a NIX based on Debian. My only frustrating issue I have been faced with has been the keyboard. To use a funtion key (ie: F5) I have to hold down the 'Fn' key. Pressing this key without holding down the 'Fn' key turns the backlight on for the keyboard. So the upper keys are reversed. All other keys work as they should. I have researched keyboard layouts and tried a few but only to make things worse. Anybody got any idea on how to fix this?
Anything involving the Fn key on a laptop keyboard is hard-wired, so the solution has to be built-in and applied before the OS is even loaded. You might be able to do something at boot time, perhaps by entering the BIOS editor. I know you can alter a Thinkpad keyboard, but I don't know about HP.

Thanks. I am thinking that there is a way to reverse the keyboard layout for the Funtion keys like F1-F12 with the OS. So, instead of pressing Fn+F5 (to use F5), I could just press the F5 Key.
