I have been trying to configure my built in wireless on Slackware 10.2.
I am using a Compaq Presario V2410US and it has the Broadcom BCM4308 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g WLAN Controller.
I upgraded to kernel 2.6.15.4 and installed a few things. I made the mistake of installing ipw2200-1.1.0. I also installed ieee80211-1.1.12 after removing the Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack from the kernel. I installed ndiswrapper-1.10 and set it up with the bcmwl5.inf driver located in /lib/windrivers
modprobe ndiswrapper with no luck so I did a few reinstalls of the ieee drivers and uninstalled them eventually and uninstalled the ipw2200-1.1.0 package. Now when I try to recompile the kernel with the
Amateur Radio Support and
Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack
with WEP Encyption, CCMP support, and TKIP encryption included
I get this error when i make
make[2]: *** No rule to make target 'net/ieee80211/ieee80211_module.s', needed by 'net/ieee80211/ieee80211_module.o'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [net/ieee80211] Error 2
make: *** [net] Error 2
and the kernel build stops.
All im trying to do is recompile the kernel and try getting the BCM4308 to work. Is there something that I am doing wrong that I am missing? I would like to have the kernel compile with the Generic 802.11 Networking Stack again.
See http;//mypage.iu.edu/~abatto/essays/Install-Ubuntu-5.10-Compaq-v2410.html from www.linux-on-laptops.com/compaq.html. There is discussion of using ndiswrapper to get wifi working. Hope you can adapt info to your setup.
I've seen that before.. its beyond just the issue of getting wifi to work, its with getting the kernel to compile with Generic 802.11 Network Stack again. The kernel won't finish compiling giving me those errors stated before. Was wondering if anyone knew what the cause of that error is or how to troubleshoot it.
Is there a firmware step needed too for the wifi setup?
My intention for the references is that you have available another kernel config file to which you can compare yours. In addition you have Pat's SW10.2/current testing 2.6.15 config file at SW download site for comparison. Good luck.
