Hi all,
I'm having issues trying to put my audio to the HDMI port on my laptop. I have an ASUS N55SL with an NVidia GTX635M graphics card which is working fine now with my video out, however the audio is still being an issue. I know that the speakers work as they are attached to my TV. I also know that the audio out works as it was fine when I was using Windows 7.
My main issue is that, for some reason, Ubuntu cannot see the respective card. aplay -l produces the following output:
Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC663 Analog [ALC663 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC663 Digital [ALC663 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
lspci -nn | grep '\[04[80][13]\]' produces:
Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1c20] (rev 05)
"The big one" from the guide which is: echo "Sound cards recognized by the system:"; lspci -nn | grep --color=none '\[04[80][13]\]'; echo "Sound cards recognized by ALSA:"; lspci -nn | grep '\[04[80][13]\]' | while read line; do lspci -nnk | grep -A 3 '\[04[80][13]\]' | grep -e 'Kernel modules: ..*' -e '\[04[80][13]\]' | grep --color=none -F "$line"; done; echo "Sound cards recognized by ALSA, and activated:"; lspci -nn | grep '\[04[80][13]\]' | while read line; do lspci -nnk | grep -A 3 '\[04[80][13]\]' | grep -e 'Kernel drivers in use: ..*' -e '\[04[80][13]\]' | grep --color=none -F "$line"; done
Produces this:
Code:
Sound cards recognized by the system:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1c20] (rev 05)
Sound cards recognized by ALSA:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1c20] (rev 05)
Sound cards recognized by ALSA, and activated:
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1c20] (rev 05)
I've been following
this guide, and I've got to the heading Ac where it states to follow the ALSA upgrade script. When I clicked the link for the tutorial, it states "WARNING: The ALSA script was useful back in the day, but it is now more dangerous than helpful for a majority of users, and there are usually better methods of upgrading. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK."
This has obviously worried me about following the instructions any further. Before I do, can anyone indicate to me whether or not I should. It states there are better methods of upgrading; can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the issue?
