Exclamation Installing Linux Error

Ok, so I stick the CD in and turn the computer on and linux comes up to install i go down and hit install, it loads the installation, i get the error:

Your computer does not have enough memory to run YaST. To continue, activate some swap space.

I click continue... and I get:

Enter the swap partition(e.g., /dev/sda2)

What do I do? Please help!

Thanks,
jburfield

It seems to ask if you already have a swap partition (from a previous linux install, for example) on you HD that it could use, since you have insufficient amount of RAM memory available. If you know you have a swap partition, and which one it is, enter it there - if you don't know, you most probably haven't created one (or don't even have linux installed yet, which is probably the case here), so your chances are bad. How much RAM do you have? Could you buy some more?

The problem simply seems to be that the installation program can't be started because you have too small amount of RAM.

That's not even close to enough RAM to run SuSE properly. I'd go with a lighter distro. While Novell claims a minimum requirement of 64MB, in truth it's double that to install and run correctly.

You could create your partitions ahead of time so as to have a swap available, but I think even if it installs it's going to run very slowly.

On a system with that low RAM either:

A. Install more RAM

B. Try something like Damn Small Linux
