Angry i855GM laptop external 1440x900 wont work

People,

I have tried every distro I could lay my hands on but it is a no-go.

I have here a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook 4010D and bought a Acer AL1916W 1440x900 widescreen screen.

It just wont display the resolution, the i855GM can do it, the screen can do it.

I disabled the internal display in the bios (but that won't work, it still goed on) Even if I keep the internal screen indicator pressed so the internal screen won't power on.

Last attemt so far: I have used SaX2 on Suse 10 to set the h en vsync closed around what it should be and the screen simentions as mentioned inthe (hard to find) acer specs but still a no go.

All these settings pop-up as they should in xorg.conf but x denies the resolution with a nice "Mode Clock 100000 Mhz exceeds DDC maximum 140 Mhz" even tried the no DDC option, nope nakkes niks.

I am probably doing something fundamentally wrong and the system is overruled by thje internal display, I read about using int_disp ext_disp but cant find nothing about that anywhere.

Someone must know what I coudl do to fix this?

My only option seems to be to return the screen or by a desktop.

ok,

I installed a Fedora 4 spinoff and installed the 855resolution.

I found that the specs Acer gives are not correct, since I broadened the sync range. Now I have 1440x900 but a black screen, I saw some posts about that so I will look into those.

hey RonaldUitAlmere,

Can you post your xOrg file or how you got it to work? It would be nice to see how yo did it so that I can try and fix mine.

Thanks.

figadiablo thanks a lot for your reply, but I was unable to solve this in time and brought the screen back to the shop and got the regular version of the Acer (AL1951) which works fine.
