I am using Fedora Core Three on my laptop. How can I hibernate my computer?

Try running powersave or powersaved or something similar

powersave --help

Look through the options, one is for "Suspend to Disk", this is what you want. powersave -U or something...

That is not a command, that I am able to execute, even through root.

Any other ideas?

Sorry, turns out powersave is a SuSE specific command, didn't realize that. Looks like the folks over at RH took swsusp out of their kernels b/c it wasn't very stable.

You could revert to a 2.6.9 kernel with full acpi support, or try another distro, but it seems that fc3 isn't adopting swsusp anytime soon. That website has some great instructions though (about 2/3 of the way down is a step-by-step to get it running)

Looks like a lot of work, but it'll probably be worth it. SuSE actually worked with Suspend to Disk and Suspend to RAM (that part really surprised me!!) right out of the box.

the guy provides custom kernel for fedora core 3 with integrated software suspend and ntfs read as kernel module. i have tested it and it runs very well... a very good solution for newbie like me
