I cant seem to get hibernate to work on my laptop.... I have an HP OmniBook 500... When i press the hibernate button it hibernates.. but then it never comes backup. I can press the power button but nothing happens.. It will not do anything til I pull the battery and put it back in

Now when I boot to windows it works fine.. hibernates and comes back up.... Any ideas what could be going wrong???

I have the same problem with Suse 9.0. Pro All the suspend, standby, hibernate functions don't work right. The laptop just won't wake up.

I have read that it is related linux just not handling power control related issues correctly. My Alienware roars like a tiger at full steam and won't step down the processor at all. I am sending it in for some physical repairs and I have a half a mind to let them put Windows back on it cause its basically unusuable as a mobile system with Suse.

I got the text below from someone else running a thinkpad X31 with slackware and ximian but it should work for any laptop. But im still not able figure out how to connect that command with closure of my lid (which should be some button in the /dev/input i presume).



ACPI supports following states: S0 S3 S4 S5, Important are S3 and S4:
- S3 = Suspend to RAM (Windows Standby)
- S4 = Suspend to Disk (Windows Hibernation)

"Suspend to Disk" works pretty well, although is's pretty slow, comapring to XP.
I can suspend the system with:

echo 4 > /proc/acpi/sleep ## kernel 2.4 echo -n mem > /sys/power/state ## kernel 2.6

well if it makes any diffrence.. i reinstalled and setup a dual boot with windows 2000... windows never comes back up either... ehhh... I dont really need this too work.. ust wanted it to work.

I updated the bios to the latest version but i get the same results.
