Help with hibernation and OpenGL on 700m...

Hey everyone.

I have been using Linux for over a year now, against the suggestions of just about everyone in my family (most of them don't really understand it, or know what an OS is), and need a bit of help.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 700m, and install Kubuntu on it. This worked great after I ironed out several kinks.

However, I wanted to be able to hibernate, and I hear everyone recommend Software Suspend 2.
So, question one: is there an easy way to just add one part to the kernel that came with Kubuntu?

I tried
Code:
 apt-get source
on the installed kernel, 2.6.10-5-386. I applied the patches to it, both the patches for Software Suspend 2 and for that kernel, and compile. After kicking it a bit, I got hibernation to work.

However, I just found out today that now OpenGL goes considerably slower than the default kernel.
So, question two: is there any thing extra that is needed for support of the Intel 855GM with OpenGL?

Thanks in advance.

swsusp2 is stil beta, it is possible that you experiment some trouble about it, most notably about graphic drivers. It is well know that some graphic drivers refuse to unload or unload uncorrectly....

Did you experiment slowdown before or after a successful hibernation? If it was after, you probably caught a bug about the graphic driver... it may be a good idea to report it, but they are probably already aware of this one. If it was "before", it's an important bug I guess, you should report it to swsusp2 developpers... still what do you mean by "run slower" how did you tested this?

In any case, swsusp2 mailing list is probably the firs place to look at.

I experienced the slowdown before and after a hibernation...

But I fixed it myself!

I found out where the AGP modules in the config for the kernel. After I added those in, the OpenGL worked.

As a bonus, I got bootsplash to work, but it doesn't work quite right with hibernation. Oh, well. I think I have ways to fix it.

Thank you for your response!
