Group fun! Lets get my Acer Travelmate 2480 working perfectly with Kubuntu!

Hey all,

So i figure, it'll be like a fun community building exercise to help me knock out the last few issues I'm having with my lappy and Kubuntu (Gutsy RC Final) Lets hop in, shall we?

1) Trackpad: This is currently my biggest, but most circumventable, problem. The synaptics touchpad doesn't work. Now, i'm not entirely surprised -- it doesnt work in Vista either, and its entirely possible the device itself is busted. But I cant seem to cat any input processes (same logic i had used to get my joysticks working.). Hence, what should be a simple sudo cat < /dev/psaux to see if ANYTHING is firing gives me "permission denied" -- even though both Linux and Vista recognized and installed drivers for the pad. Thoughts on how to get some data so i/we can figure what whats wrong?

2) Suspend: Doesnt work. Similar to the mactop issue, where it suspends succesfully, never to awaken again. Im using hibernate right now, but gee golly it sure would be swell to be able to suspend.

3) Volume Keys: Third on the list is the XFree86VolumeKey bindings. Mute works, finally, after changing the Master Channel w/ KMix, but the volume keys a) don't affect the volume and b) only go up to 11% - and in this case, all the way up to 11 isn't cutting it for me? Thoughts?

4) Misc.: Compiz-fusion on real startup? (script in ~/.kde/Autostart works, but still loads KDM first, and then runs compiz --replace) Iffy range on wireless card using ndiswrapper? (cause bcm43xx didnae work) Does awn-manager actually run in KDE? (signs say no) Screenlets? (same deal) <-- All these are minor annoyances, hence the lack of detailed problem logs etc. etc.

So yeah. Go Team! Help fix my bugs! Dont make me have to boot into Vista! Thanks for your help.
