GeForceFX Go5200: More than one matching Device section
I have a Dell D800 Latitude laptop with a GeForce FX Go 5200.
I've been fighting this problem for the past 3 days! Isearched this list and the one at nV news forums, and read most of the documentation that came with the nvidia driver (7664).
My goals:
1. Be able to use the laptop's monitor in standalone (nv driver doesn't work--black screen on laptop)
2. Be able to use the port replicator's monitor as an extended screen. (Works, but nothing's displayed on the laptop.)
3. Be able to plug in a projector and give a presentation.
All 3 of these modes work when I'm running XP, but not SuSE 9.3 (updated today!, including the 1.0-7664 driver from nvidia).
My /var/log/Xorg.0.log file contains:
(WW) NVIDIA: More than one matching Device section found: GeForceFX Go 5200
1. What does this message mean? I've seen other examples on the net of two Screen sections referencing the same device.
2. How do I fix it?
I now get two screens working in TwinView with the laptop resolution at 1920x1200 and the attached monitor at 1600x1200,
CRT-0 RightOf DFP-0. I can drag windows from one screen to the other! Hooray! It's starting to work like it's supposed to! (One conclusion I've come to is that you can't have more than one Monitor or Screen section in xorg.conf.)
This is great progress!
Here are the unresolved issues:
1. The monitor ends up with the Gnome Task bar. This would be just
an esthetic issue, except for the next issue.
2. If I undock my laptop, the Gnome Task Bars are still on the
(unconnected) monitor, and therefore, unaccessible. (bad)
3. Inconsistent locking behavior. Starting with Gnome running on two
screens...
1. Close the laptop lid. Open laptop lid. Both keyboards and
mice work. (good) The screen-saver is on. (good) I can log
in. (good)
2. Undock, then redock, continue at (a). Everything works. (good)
3. Undock. Close, then open the laptop lid. The screen saver
kicks in, and I can log in. (good) Half the display is "on"
the other (disconnected) screen. so it can't be viewed.
(annoying) I can redock and the attached monitor resumes its
display. (good)
4. Undock. Close the laptop lid. Redock. Open the laptop lid.
The screen saver kicks in. However, neither keyboard nor
mouse responds. (bad) The virtual screens are not
accessible. (bad) The only thing left to do is power-cycle.
(bad)
Thanks for your help,
SKelem
